I’m starting my campaign and I found out today I got rewarded the Summer Travel Grant for Education Abroad Program. Yay! I’m excited. This is going to be an amazing journey.

Last night, I watched Ai WeiWei documentary and I wanted to share this video and some thoughts I have exchanged with a International Chinese friend. Ai WeiWei is an artist, photographer, and an activist. I intend to do the same… without the finger. I still love this guy. I have to say, this is the first person made me wanted to question my own issues as an Asian American.
The knowledge gaining and trying to understand myself has been a long road for me. I have accomplished many educational goals and have chased my dream to become a photojournalist, but being an environment away from home I have realized a new passion. I want to become a film maker.
The method to my madness for summer abroad is not to hang around the pubs and drink Guinness beer. It is my last chance and my hope to really understand my true path.
Since I have been away for almost a year from the Filipino American Community, I come to realize I have not made any attempt or research on being Filipino American. Confession time, I felt indifferent and distance to my own community. For some reason I did not fit in as well, but I don’t blame anyone, but myself. I’m here to learn the not only the history but uncover and document the community my way.
I am still at square one, but I will dedicate my life to this passion. I know the craft of a film maker can bring great change and I am wanting to use this technique on how I see the world.
I just finished booking my flight to Ireland. Feels very unreal. I bought my ticked on cheapseats, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to buy their cheapseats insurance. I’m kind of glad I didn’t Totally trust Clark Howard approach. Hope this trip goes well for me!
I had my first meeting with my Ireland group. I’m already excited with joy! yay! I also got my place ticket! yay. I’m ready to go!
I had a few thoughts and this is including the type of exploration of the Asian American Culture. I think this is going to be something I pulled out of my head, because I am bit random :D I believe this trip will truly explore myself as an Asian American believe it or not. Just thinking about acknowledging my own culture is a powerful thing. I know it sounds crazy, but growing up… it was hard then ever to juggle two types of culture in one house hold.
I think if we don’t embarrass what we are born with, I think we can make a big impact from our experiences. Just saying. YAY!
This is the most embracing video I have done. Aside from me being super shy about myself, I was able to get a scholarship from Diversity Abroad Scholarship . I will be reporting my amazing adventures for them with sneak peaks of photographs. Thank you for the opportunity and I won’t let you down!

Hello. My name is Sonya… the one with the scarf and glasses. I am here in Letterkenny, Ireland for Documentary Storytelling and Video Production with Ohio University. My friends Amy (at the back) and Erin (Ohio shirt) and explored the town by foot… feet… foot… its foot right?

Along the way, we met the fabulous Dream Team Directors, Sam Girton and Frederick Lewis (The one with his back turned). Sam bought a phone and a plan for the trip. Its important to buy a phone overseas to cut the cost of using your phone internationally.

This is Frederick Lewis and his happy face.

We stopped by at the The Brewery for lunch. The food was wonderful. Erica and I split meal to save money and room for our tummy. We got the chicken wedge and onion rings with a side of onion and honey mustered.

The weather in Letterkenny was slightly chill and cool at the same time. It was really cloudy, but it did not rain. It was beautifully chilling.

Sending postcards is the best way to give your love ones a souvenir. Its cheap and personal to do when you are on a budget.
Save a postcard for yourself also. Write down your thoughts, what you have learned, and places you have gone. By the time you get back from your trip, you will have another piece of history to look back 20 years from now. You won’t regret it.
Skype with family when your faraway from home. It is the best way to cure home sickness.
When you do travel internationally, its expensive to use your cellphone. You will be billed for roaming and it will cost per min. Instead, buy skype credit to call home. I got the 400min plan as you go $4.99 per month. Later use skype to skype for free.
My Niece asked me if I was near a pub… she is so clever at her age.
